Under general direction, provides technical, educational and training services in the field of nutrition and dietetics, develops and maintains the County’s WIC Nutritional Program and Jail Nutritional Assessment Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  The principles, techniques and practices of nutrition; recommended food requirements for different age and occupational groups; educational methods and training techniques; comparative costs of various foods in relation to their nutritional values; community health organizations and resources; current social and economic problems pertaining to public health nutrition; current trends, concepts and advances in the profession; standard office equipment and audio/visual equipment; basic computer applications and techniques; may require knowledge of a foreign language as determined by community need.

Ability to:  Apply the methods and techniques used in nutrition investigations and dietary studies; develop nutrition programs; analyze menus and diets for nutritional adequacy; analyze situations accurately and take appropriate action; establish and maintain effective interpersonal relations with public and private health agencies, staff members, and the general public; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; prepare clear and concise reports; maintain accurate records; operate standard office equipment and audio/visual equipment; operate a motor vehicle; and utilize various software programs relevant to the position.  May require ability to speak a foreign language, as determined by community need.

Education and Experience:  Master’s Degree in nutritional science, community nutrition, dietetics, public health nutrition, or home economics with emphasis in nutrition or possession of a Baccalaureate Degree in nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, public health nutrition, or home economics with emphasis in nutrition and completion of a dietetic internship or traineeship approved by the American Dietetic Association; and one year of experience which would demonstrate possession of the above knowledge and abilities.
