2022 SCHOLARSHIPS

The California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation (CA Academy Foundation) offers seven $2,000 scholarships annually for dietetic students and one $2,000 scholarship for a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) who is enrolled in or admitted to a Master’s or PhD Degree program. There are four additional $500 scholarships for CSU Fresno students or recent grads. The Dorothy Chen-Maynard Annual Membership Scholarship rotates and is found under “Membership Scholarships”. Please note this scholarship application is different from the others. The 2021 Pauline Schatz Memorial Undergraduate Research Grant may be awarded annually and is found under “Grants”. 

Note: A student is not eligible to win the same scholarship two years in a row and can only receive one scholarship per scholarship year. The Scholarship Review Committee will determine applicant eligibility. 

General Scholarship requirements include:
California Resident – US citizenship or permanent residence is not required to apply for CA Academy Foundation Scholarships. You must reside in California. 

Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

The CA Academy Foundation offers the following scholarships annually:  

Dolores Nyhus Graduate Fellowship Fund
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR) or credential to be earned within 6 months of award
  • Enrolled or admitted to a graduate school in the area of public health, gerontology, or a community-related program, beginning within 6 months of receipt of the award letter.
    Minimum of three years of professional experience
  • Intends to practice in the field of dietetics and shows substantial contribution to the profession.
Carol Hayes Torio Memorial Dietetic Technician Scholarship
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Entering the 2nd year of an accredited Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR) program or an NDTR entering a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), an ACEND accredited Coordinated Program (CP) or an ACEND accredited graduate program
Carol Hayes Torio Memorial Scholarship
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Entering at least the 2nd year of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), an ACEND accredited Coordinated Program (CP), an ACEND accredited graduate program or accepted o an ACEND accredited program Supervised Practice Program beginning within 6 months of receipt of the award letter.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
Diversity Scholarship
  • American Indian/Native American (proof required), Pacific Islander, African American, Asian, or male
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Entering the 1st or 2nd year of an accredited Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR) program or entering at least the 2nd year of an ACEND accredited Coordinated Program (CP) or an ACEND accredited graduate program, a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), or accepted to an ACEND accredited Supervised Practice Program beginning within 6 months of receipt of an award letter
  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA
Consultant Dietitians (CDC) Scholarship
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Graduate of or currently enrolled in a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), an ACEND accredited Coordinated Program (CP), an ACEND accredited graduate program, or accepted to attend an ACEND accredited Supervised Program beginning within 6 months of receipt of the award letter
  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA
  • Prior experience in or intends to practice in the field of geriatrics or consulting
Corinne Williams Scholarship
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Entering 1st or 2nd year of an accredited Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR) program or entering at least 2nd year of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), an ACEND accredited Coordinated Program (CP), an ACEND accredited graduate program, or accepted to an ACEND accredited Supervised Practice Program beginning within 6 months of receipt of an award letter.
  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA.
Back to School for Master's Degree, Doctorate of Education (EdD), or Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
  • Enrolled in or admitted to a graduate school, EdD, or PhD Program (proof required)
  • Minimum years of professional experience for
           Master’s – 3 years
           EdD or PhD – 5 years
  • Intends to continue practicing in the dietetics or related field
  • Shows promise of making a substantial contribution to the profession
Jacqueline Saracino Scholarship - Los Angeles Region - must reside in Los Angeles County
  • Demonstrate Financial Need
  • Entering 1st or 2nd year of an accredited Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR) program or entering at least 2nd year of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), an ACEND accredited Coordinated Program (CP), an ACEND accredited graduate program, or accepted to an ACEND accredited Supervised Practice Program beginning within 6 months of receipt of an award letter.
  • Minimum 3.0 Overall GPA
  • Member of Academy
  • Must reside in Los Angeles County
  • Demonstrate Community involvement within nutrition, health, or wellness
Helena Kennedy Memorial Scholarship - CSU Fresno under/grad students
  • $500 for up to 4 qualified candidates annually
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • A graduate or student of CSU Fresno Dietetics Program –  completed graduation must have done so within the past 6 months
  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics affiliated with California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Identifies with an underserved population, including but not limited to American Indian/Native American, Hispanic Non-White, Pacific Islander, African American, Asian, SOGIE/LGBTQI

Membership Scholarships

Dorothy Chen-Maynard Annual Membership Scholarship
Through the generous contribution of Dorothy Chen-Maynard, PhD, RDN, FAND, Director of the DPD and ISPP Programs of the Nutritional Science and Dietetics Program at California State University, San Bernardino, this annual award for membership was created to provide the needed financial assistance of nutrition professionals, students, and interns to pay for their Annual Membership dues with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (the Academy).
This assistance is provided with the goal that recipients plans to be a successful member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to strengthen their relationship within the profession, volunteerism, and leadership positions.   Up to $1,000 each year will be dispersed in the amount of value of the AND membership dues for RDN, NDTR, students, or interns.  The awards provided each year will depend on the category and numbers awarded up to $1,000 each year.  Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Criteria for Award
1. California resident.
2. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), DTR or NDTR, students, or interns enrolled in an ACEND accredited program (DPD, ISPP, DI, or CP)
3. Become an active member of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics/CA Academy.
4. Preference will be given to members who desire to be involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion activities with district, state, or national academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
5. Recipients are expected to continue to practice in the field of dietetics and shows promise of making a substantial contribution to the diversity in the profession.
6. May be awarded one time in a three-year period.

Grants

2022 Pauline Schatz Memorial Undergraduate Research Grant

The Pauline Schatz Memorial Undergraduate Research Grant was established to demonstrate the importance of how positive relationships benefit the mentor, mentee, and society. The faculty member will be awarded a grant to mentor undergraduate students and support the:

o Value of dietetic professionals in the public health field
o Evolving role of nutrition professionals in dietetics
o Importance of nutrition research in diverse communities
o Need for equitable access to food and resources for underserved populations
