Webinar – Medically Tailored Meals for the Management of Chronic Disease

Fatinah Darwish – Elsherbiny, MPH, RDN
Fatinah will discuss how the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) partnered with healthcare organizations to launch produce prescription projects (PPR) across nine health centers in Los Angeles County. PPR participants are eligible for the program if they are enrolled in Medicaid, screened positive for food insecurity, and either diagnosed with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Participants receive an electronic debit card that can be redeemed for fresh fruits and vegetables only at participating grocery stores. Using a patient-centered approach, participants’ feedback were vital in program implementation and evaluation. Through this approach, DPH anticipates optimal PPR participation rates and compliance with data collection, critical in showing the impact of PPR on health outcomes.
