Annual Meeting is Almost Here!
Join us in Riverside April 23rd -
25th for the 2009 CDA Annual
Meeting! An outstanding
Continuing Education Program has
been planned and the Exhibits
will prove to be informative,
educational, and fun! Students and
members will display their research
projects at the Poster Session.
For our students and new members,
there will be a Patio Reception
on Friday evening. Later that
evening, the ADAF is hosting a
Wine and Chocolate Reception
fundraiser.
Do not forget the pre-conference
workshop on Wednesday evening (April
22) from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
This lively and informative workshop
is entitled: Reimbursement Matters:
Jump The Journey.

Breakfast and Conversation: Friday April
24th, 7:30 AM
High Fructose Corn Syrup has recently been the
subject of a lot of misinformation. You
are invited to discuss the science behind high
fructose corn syrup led by John White, PhD,
President and Founder of White Technical
Research.
Clinical Privileging: Friday April 24th, 5:15
PM - 6:15 PM
This sizzling hot topic will be presented by
CDA's public Policy Panel. Delve into
regulations and key terms that impact clinical
RD activities and responsibilities.
Scientific Update on Vitamin D: Saturday
April 25th, 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
This session will discuss the non-classical
effects of Vitamin D receptor activity and the
use of Vitamin D for chronic kidney disease
patients and "cardio-renal" protection. |

Good Advice Gone Awry?
Over-simplified health and nutrition messages are
explored in a monograph recently released by the Dairy
Council of CA and reviewed by two past ADA presidents:
CDA member Doris Derelian and Marianne Smith Edge.
With a focus on nutrition education, food groups as the
basis for sound nutritional choices, and
individualization as a necessity for any diet plan, it
provides the health professional with practice points
for implementing individualized, comprehensive yet
feasible advice that promotes well-being.

mission of the CDA Foundation is to
help fund the education of students
and award community nutrition
grants. Because of the current
economic situation, CDAF found
itself having to make difficult
decisions. After much
deliberation, the Board decided to
award scholarships for the 2008-2009
year.
To help rebuild scholarship funds,
the Foundation is in need of your
donations. Download a

Education: State and Federal
You have two opportunities to
participate in Public Policy
Education: the CA State meeting on
March 9th, 2009 in Sacramento and
the Federal meetings February 8-10,

Sports Nutrition Workshop
On Saturday, February 7th, 2009 at CSU
Northridge, RK Team Nutrition will conduct a
Sports Nutrition Workshop. The morning
session will cover an overview of Sports
Nutrition while the afternoon session will
provide experience in Sports Dietetics.

As of 12.31.08 ADA had 68,194 members. As
of 01.19.08 CDA had 6,742 members. This
means that CDA membership comprises about 9.9%
of all ADA membership. |
