Rylee Welly, RDN Rylee Welly, RDN is the coordinator of nutrition services at Natomas Unified School District (NUSD). As the coordinator she supervises and trains nutrition services staff, ensures compliance with USDA rules and regulations, and provides nutrition education to students throughout NUSD. Prior to working at NUSD, Rylee worked for Sacramento County Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) Program where she focused on improving the nutrition support and education provided to low-income women and children. She completed her undergraduate degree at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and her dietetic internship at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. This is Rylee’s third year on the Northern Area District Executive Board and she is looking forward to a fun and eventful year as President. In her spare time, Rylee enjoys running, cycling, hiking, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. She currently lives in Davis with her husband, Bryan.
Martha Lawder, RDN Martha Lawder, RDN, works for Genesis Healthcare as a long term care dietitian. Martha is originally from Florida where she joined the Navy, working in the intelligence field, prior to moving to California to pursue her education in dietetics. Martha completed both her undergrad and dietetic internship at California State University, Sacramento and she is currently working towards a Master in Nutrition Sciences at Stony Brook University. Martha has been involved with the board as a volunteer since she was in undergrad and is excited for the chance to contribute to the board as a dietitian. She resides in Roseville with her husband, Andrew, and they enjoy exploring the Northern California region and all that it has to offer.

Golnaz Ghomeshi, RD Golnaz Friedman, RD, is a transplant dietitian at UC Davis Medical Center. Golnaz is involved with the evaluation and care of pre-transplant and post-transplant patients, as well as living donors. Golnaz completed her undergraduate degree at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and her dietetic internship at CSU Sacramento where she first became involved with the Northern Area District and recognized the importance of taking on leadership roles within your profession. She has been on the Northern Area District board for the past three years and plans to continue to give back to her profession by serving her local district. She is a true believer in the healing power of food and nutrition and prides herself in working for a profession that promotes something as natural as food. Golnaz lives in Sacramento with her husband. She enjoys exploring the local food and restaurants in Sacramento in her free time.
Tarra Jaimes, RD Tarra Jaimes, RD, is a clinical dietitian at Dignity Health with Woodland Healthcare. Prior to starting her career at Dignity Health, Tarra completed both her bachelor of science in dietetics and dietetic internship at California State University, Sacramento. She enjoys hiking, visiting local farmers markets, and traveling.
Donna Ruden, RDN Donna Ruden, RDN, is behavioral health educator and bariatric dietitian at the The Hernried Center for Medical Weight Loss where she enjoys collaborating with patients in their transformation and journey to living a healthy life. Prior to joining The Hernried Center, she worked for the UC Davis Medical Center as an inpatient and outpatient dietitian providing nutrition care to a variety of patient populations with an emphasis on renal transplant. She completed her B.S. in Dietetics at California State University, Sacramento and completed her dietetic internship at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California. Donna also holds a B.S. in Business Administration and previously worked for Hewlett-Packard for 17 years before launching a career change into the field of nutrition and dietetics. She is originally from San Jose and is currently a long-term resident of Roseville with her husband, Joe, and their cat, Samson.
Maryanna McGervery, MPH, RD, CSG Maryanna McGervey MPH, RD, CSG is a Behavioral Health Dietitian currently working as Director of Food and Nutrition Services at Sierra Vista Hospital. She is honored to be able to work with this significantly under represented population, who are in such need for nutrition support. Maryanna is passionate about teaching others the importance of eating healthy, on any budget. She completed her internship and masters degree at Loma Linda University and undergraduate degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She is looking forward to her new position as Treasure Elect and working along side other great Dietitians. In Maryanna's free time she can be found outside; camping, hiking, rock climbing or picnicking.

Joanne Graham, PhD, RD Joanne M. Graham is a Registered Dietitian who has a doctoral degree in nutrition with a designated emphasis in International Nutrition and Epidemiology/Biostatistics. Joanne earned her bachelor’s degree in dietetics and doctorate at the University of California Davis, and completed a dietetic internship at UCLA/Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar, California. Joanne is employed at CalPERS, the nation’s largest state pension fund. As a research scientist in CalPERS Center for Innovation, she participates in the implementation and evaluation of pilot projects related to health programs and sustainability. Prior to her current position, she was the program director for the dietetic internship at CSU, Sacramento coordinating field placements with over 30 healthcare affiliates throughout Sacramento, Solano, San Joaquin, Placer, and Nevada counties, in addition to teaching graduate-level nutrition courses. Joanne also taught undergraduate lifespan nutrition and metabolism courses at CSU, Sacramento. Prior to joining the educators at CSU, Sacramento Joanne worked for the USDA, Agricultural Research Service – Western Human Nutrition Research Center in Davis, CA as part of her post-doctoral training. Joanne has conducted international research related to maternal antenatal health, pregnancy outcomes and infant development, and has contributions in peer-reviewed journals and nutrition reference books. Joanne continues to work with the underserved as a volunteer community dietitian at Clinica Tepati. Joanne is a member of several practice groups and serves on the CAND Education Council. Joanne and her family are happy to call Sacramento home.

Jo Miller, RDN, MPH Jo Miller, RDN, MPH, was born and raised in Sacramento, California. She received a B.S. in Nutrition Science and Minor’s in Food Service Management and Fine Arts from UC Davis then went on to complete her dietetic internship at Napa State Hospital. In 2010 she completed her master’s in Public Health from UC Davis with an emphasis on Nutrition, Informatics and Journalism. Joey is currently a Disaster Nutrition Consultant at Meals for All. Her focus is, but not limited to, volume emergency nutrition preparedness, marketing and education. She is an invited speaker on the topic of emergency nutrition preparedness throughout the United States and works closely with healthcare facilities to evaluate current emergency nutrition plans and anticipate future preparedness needs. Joey also has a passion for good food and more than 16 years experience in the natural products industry. She works 1 day a week as a Wellness Clerk at the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op and is a quarterly contributor to the Co-Op Reporter covering topics on natural foods, nutrition and clean body care. In her free time, Joey’s favorite activities are: oil painting, traveling, cycling, hiking, peak-bagging and backpacking. Joey lives with her family in Sacramento, CA.

Marlia Braun, PhD, RD, CSSD Marlia Braun holds the position of Principal Dietitian Supervisor in Food and Nutrition Services at the UC Davis Medical Center. In her role as the Patient Services Manager, she oversees the food service operations as it relates to patient services. Prior to this Marlia was an Outpatient Senior Dietitian for the UC Davis Health System for 8 years, rotating through several clinics including Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Sports Medicine, Weight Management, Metabolic clinic, ALS multidisciplinary clinic and Wound Board. Marlia earned her Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences, Doctorate in Nutritional Biology and completed her Dietetic Internship through University of California, Davis. She lives in Davis with her husband and three young children.
Mercedes O'Madden, RD, CSO Mercedes O’Madden is a bilingual Registered Dietitian and a Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition. She has worked at UC Davis Medical Center for the last 10 years. She primarily provides medical nutrition therapy to patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and/or a Bone Marrow Transplant among other medical conditions.
NEWSLETTER EDITOR :: Rachel Bartel, RD Rachel Bartel, RD is a clinical dietitian at Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch. Prior to working for SDMC, Rachel worked as a per diem dietitian at UC Davis Medical Center. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from California State University Chico and completed her Dietetic Internship at UC Davis Medical Center. Rachel is a member of the Dietitians in Nutrition Support dietetic practice group and is planning to take the CNSC exam in the spring. Rachel is a Northern California native who now lives in Walnut Creek. In her free time, Rachel enjoys cooking, hiking, playing guitar, and traveling.

Juliyana Fulton, RD Juliyana Fulton, RD is a Clinical Dietitian at Methodist Hospital and Bruceville Terrace Skilled Nursing Facility. Juliyana received her Bachelors of Science in Food and Nutrition Sciences Dietetics Option at California State University, Chico. She completed her internship through Idaho State University. A dietitian since 2012, she has worked in both acute care and long term care throughout her career. She especially enjoys the field of geriatric nutrition, and is currently studying to become a board certified specialist in gerontological nutrition. This is Juliyana’s first position in California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Northern Area District Association, and she is looking forward to getting more involved. Juliyana enjoys cycling, hiking, and spending time with her friends and family, her husband and her animals.

Jennifer Manning, RD, CNSC Jennifer Manning RD CNSC is a Senior Dietitian at UC Davis Medical Center. Currently she practices in several outpatient clinics working with both adult and pediatric patients (general medicine, sports medicine, ALS, wound, primary care). Jennifer loves working in a variety of settings/specialties. Since beginning her career with UC Davis in 2007, she has worked in various areas and specialties including but not limited to: critical care, trauma, cardiothoracic, orthopedics, pediatric inpatient and outpatient, wound healing, eating disorders, ALS, OB, CF, bariatrics, general medicine, physical medicine and rehab, and inpatient and outpatient staff relief. A native New Yorker Jennifer worked as a nutrition educator for a network of community healthcare centers and schools in upstate New York prior to moving to California to complete her internship. Jennifer completed her Bachelors of Science in Dietetics at the University of Rhode Island in 2005 and in 2007 she completed her Dietetic Internship at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. In her free time Jennifer is an avid runner, enjoys hiking, and loves to travel.

Evelyn Miller, MAS, RD, IBCLC Evelyn Miller, MAS, RD, IBCLC works for two organizations: UC Davis Medical Center and the Sacramento County Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Program. At UC Davis Medical Center she serves as an outpatient dietitian in several clinics including Pediatric Nephrology, Adult Transplant, Ketogenic Diet Clinic and Family Practice. At WIC she acts as the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Coordinator and works with first-time mothers to support breastfeeding.
Evelyn completed her Master of Advance Study in Maternal and Child Nutrition at UC Davis in 2013 and her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at the University of Vermont in 2006. Originally from Vermont, she moved to Sacramento to complete her Dietetic Internship at UC Davis Medical Center in 2007. Evelyn has a passion for travel and trying new foods. In her free time, she loves spending time with her husband, hiking, cooking, and exploring. She also volunteers as a birth doula.

Betsy Klug, RDN Betsy Klug, RD, is an adult inpatient dietitian at UC Davis Medical Center providing nutrition care to a variety of patient populations. Prior to becoming full time at UCD, Betsy split her time between Mercy General Hospital and UC Davis Medical Center. She completed her bachelor’s degree at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and her dietetic internship at the University of Houston. In her free time she likes to hike, bake and spend time with friends and family in Davis and Sonoma.

Christina Lobue, RDN Christina LoBue, RDN, is an integrative and functional medicine Dietitian at True Health CFM and is passionate about helping others optimize their wellness potential. She completed her B.S. in Dietetics at San Francisco State University with a Minor in Holistic Health and recently completed her dietetic internship at the Fort Miley San Francisco VA Medical Center. Christina firmly believes good nutrition is a vital key for a strong spirit, mind, and body and empowers her patients through a personalized, holistic approach.
WEBSITE EDITOR :: Pam Rapp, MS, RDN Pam completed her dietetic internship at California State University Sacramento; she also holds a Master’s of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Alabama, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition and minor in Food Science from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. She is currently consulting with the Roseville City School District Food Services Department. Her past experiences include inpatient, intensive outpatient and general outpatient eating disorder counseling. She currently lives in Roseville with her husband, dogs and active toddler. Allison Tallyn is an outpatient Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator at UC Davis Student Health and Wellness Center where she provides individual medical nutrition therapy to UC Davis Students. In addition she works at UC Davis Occupational Health Services providing nutrition services to employees through the campus wide WorkStrong program. Previous to this Allison worked as an inpatient and outpatient dietitian for Sodexo at Rideout Health. Allison attended UC Davis where she completed her undergraduate degree in clinical nutrition. Following graduation, she completed her dietetic internship at Bradley University in Peoria Illinois and completed her Masters of Advance Study in Maternal and Child Nutrition at UC Davis. In her free time, Allison enjoys training for triathlons, camping and hiking.

James Wyatt James S. Wyatt is senior at the University of California, Davis who is completing an undergraduate degree in Clinical Nutrition. He has aspirations of becoming a Registered Dietician to consult expecting mothers and young children. James transferred from San Diego Mesa College where he was first introduced to nutrition through a cultural foods course. The course inspired him through the belief that food can bring communities together. James has recently worked with Team Davis Good Foods Garden for the past two academic quarters. TDGFG is an outreach program created by Dr. Liz Applegate of UC Davis, which creates nutrition lessons for it participants who have a form of mental impairment. James has taken great pride in having worked with TDGFG, and hopes to reach out to other select groups of the community.
STUDENT LIASON ::
Karina Almanza Karina Almanza is entering her last year as an undergraduate student at the University of California, Davis; graduating with a B.S. in Clinical Nutrition. Prior to transferring to UC Davis, Karina attended Moorpark College and Pierce Community College where she received two A.A.'s in Natural Sciences and Social & Behavioral Sciences. Her experiences include, but are not limited to, taking the title of “Nutrition Translator” alongside R.D. Andrea Randall at the Davis, Sutter Hospital where she would translate dialogue between Spanish speaking patients and the Dietician, as well as meet with patients, take in-depth notes on their eating patterns and diet in order to promote a healthier lifestyle; taking on the role of “Volunteer Coordinator” under the direction of R.D., Linda Adams at the UC Davis Sustainability and Nutrition Office where she held an internship prior as “Food and Cooking Intern” with the ultimate goal to enrich the lives of students attending UC Davis by making resources available to them to become well versed nutritionally. This passionate student has been quoted to say, “Nutrition is my Religion,” and not just on Sunday but everyday.
