Service Projects The Bay Area District of the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics advocates for the dietetics profession and serves the public through the promotion of optimal nutrition, health and well-being. To those ends, we engage in a number of activities to enrich our communities: We share information about how our members can apply their expertise on a volunteer basis. We fund community nutrition demonstration projects. We develop…children…We recognize our outstanding members. We provide a scholarship for nutrition students in higher education. We promote our members for Academy and California Awards and Scholarships.

Community Nutrition Grant Each year, one local organization is funded $1,000 for a community nutrition demonstration project that would benefit an at-risk population in one of our 9 counties. Bay Area Scholarship McMaster’s Award- One student studying and/or residing in one of BAD’s counties, who has demonstrated outstanding ability, commitment, and academic excellence, is awarded annually. Nominations are solicited from professors at San Francisco State University, the University of California at San Francisco, and Napa State, usually by mid-April. The scholarship is presented in memory of Virgina McMasters, PhD, RD, a distinguished educator and practitioner of dietetics.
